Joseph J. Loeffler

Joseph John Loeffler was born on September 10, 1895 to Anthony J. and Barbara J. Loeffler. The family was originally from Brooklyn and settled in Brentwood in 1910. The Loefflers had five children, Sabinia B. who was born in 1892, Joseph, Theresa born in 1898, and Michael born in 1900.. Joseph was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War I and served with Company K, 310th Regiment, 78th Division. He was stationed at Camp Upton in Yapank where he was trained and later on he was sent to Fort Dix in New Jersey. He was killed during the war, overseas in St. Mihiel, France some time in October of 1918. Joseph was buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore, New York. On November 1, 1928 a post in Brentwood was charted and named the Joseph Loeffler Post #1006.
